The End Of A Long Day...

Oh my god I made it. Today has been gruelling. I was determined to get here today but it meant 11 hours on the road. That's the longest I've done. That last 100 miles were tough. Needless to say, after I left Glencoe it started to rain. That type of rain that you can actually feel bouncing off your arms through a biker jacket and 2 other layers. Downpour! I almost came off at one point. Flooded road, change of camber, and a bend sent the bike sideways. Luckily I kept it upright. What a let-down that would have been! The scenery up here is stunning. All golds and yellows and greens and browns. The coastline is dramatic and the road follows it closely. And a miracle happened. I got about 20 minutes out and the sun appeared! Honestly, it is now a blue sky evening and I am hoping for a dramatic sunset. It's the strangest thing. it happened that fast. Just cleared up in minutes. I'm here. Can you believe it?

Congratulations babe !!!
It's been a tough journey for you but you've overcome all the challenges that came your way and did it! I'm so pleased for you, you should be proud of yourself for keeping going when it would have been all too easy to just come home when the satnav failed.
I'll get the mulled wine on :-)
Debbie x x x

ps - a big well done from Merm & Len they've been behind you all the way! x x

Good on you GD, well done...! On the way home I expect you'll be thinking about your next challenge but beware most mountaineers fall on the way down the mountain so tread carefully as it's not over until you are home!

Once the dust has settled you should seriously think about getting your GSR down to the Alps for some real mountain roads.

Meanwhile talking of long distance riding I met Nick Sanders today. Nick went round the world on an R1 a couple of years back. He's holder of the ‘round the world on a motor bike’ speed record. He clocked over 19,000 miles in 19 days! There's a book & DVD, Journey Beyond Reason, available, quite unbelievable!

I've also just read that among his many other awesome achievements that he rode round the coast of GB on a push bike, 4802 miles in 22 days! As he says he aspires to a different platform to most of us!

Congratulations on achieving your own Everest, you'll be dead chuffed & deservedly so. Ride Safe - yours Shooting Star.

Thanks everyone... I really appreciate it, and all the support I received as I went round... And great advice Shooting Star! The journey back needed my concentration too!
